Beets have earned a well-deserved reputation in their cleansing and blood nourishing properties, which can be particularly beneficial during the postpartum period when the body is recovering from blood loss during childbirth.
Sweet, Bitter, Astringent
During postpartum period, new moms have weaker digestive power. It is highly recommended to consume nourishing Cooked beets. Once cooked, beetroots become soft and sweet, with little to no astringency, making them a perfect nutritious dietary option.
Beetroots are believed to pacify the Vata and Pitta dosha, helping to cool and nourish the body. They aid in cleansing the blood, liver and bowels. At the end of Winter, the liver releases fat into the bloodstream, preparing for the Spring season. The consumption of beets helps flush excessive oil out of the blood stream and cleanse it.
